Multiple Saudi clubs want Salah this summer

Latest from Your Site News' chief correspondent Kaveh Solhekol:

Multiple Saudi Arabian clubs want to sign Mohamed Salah this summer when he leaves Liverpool as a free agent.

However, it will not solely be down to the clubs what happens if Salah does decide to move to the Gulf State.

The Saudi Pro League and The Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund who majority-own the big four clubs, will also have a big say.

As Salah is such a high-profile player, and the greatest Arab player of all time, the Saudi Ministry of Sport will also be involved in any decision to sign Salah.

A case could be made for the fact that Saudi football needs an icon to replace Cristiano Ronaldo who will be 42 and out of contract in the summer of 2027.

Nothing has been decided about Salahs future long-term but there have been long-standing contacts with Saudi officials as his future at Liverpool has been uncertain for at least three years.

There will be lots of interest from clubs outside Saudi as well. Salah will be 34 in May, but he will be available on a free transfer.

Nobody will be able to offer him as much money as the Saudis, but if he still wants to play at the highest level, he will have other options as well.

When it looked likely that he was not going to be offered a new Liverpool contract in 2024 and 2025, intermediaries are believed to have held exploratory talks about the possibility of Salah moving to other clubs such as Chelsea as a free agent.

Al Ittihad made a verbal offer worth 150 million which was turned down by Liverpool in the summer of 2023.

Al Ittihad are the Saudi club who, on paper, need Salah most at the moment. They lost Karim Benzema and do not have a star player like the Egyptian.

What are the options for Salah in Saudi?

  • Al Ittihad: currently 6th in SPL, Salahs former teammate Fabinho is still there.
  • Al Nassr: top of SPL, trying to win Ronaldos first Saudi title, also have Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman Joao Felix.
  • Al Hilal: second in SPL, managed by Simone Inzaghi, star names Benzema, Ruben Neves and Darwin Nunez.
  • Al Ahli third in SPL, most famous players Ivan Toney and Riyad Mahrez.

Where will Salah go next?

Mohamed Salah's agent has said the Liverpool forward does not know which club he will be playing for next season.

The legendary forward will depart as a free agent in the summer after an agreement was reached with Liverpoool to cut his contract short by a year.

Responding to the news, Salah's agent Ramy Abbas Issa posted on social media: "We do not know where Mohamed will play next season. This also means that no one else knows."

Salah's agent is trying to get ahead of speculation about his client's future - but that will not stop the noise.

When the forward plunged his future into doubt earlier this season during his public fall-out with Liverpool and Arne Slot, the Saudi Pro League made no secret of its desire to sign him.

Liverpool explain Salah decision

Here is Liverpool's statement in full on Mo Salah, whom the club say wanted "at the earliest opportunity to provide transparency about his future".

"Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025-26 season.

"The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.

"Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.

"Signed from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, the No.11 has firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpools history, helping the club to two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as an FA Community Shield.

"His 255 goals in 435 appearances to date has the Egyptian sitting third on the Reds all-time leading goalscorers chart, winning the Premier League Golden Boot on four occasions in addition to a host of personal accolades.

"With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield."

Salah to leave Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed that Mo Salah will leave the club at the end of the season.

that was set to keep him at Anfield until 2027.

But the forward will now depart this summer.

Carsley: Dowman has fantastic future

England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley expects Max Dowman to have a "fantastic future at international level" but says there is no need to rush the 16-year-old's development.

The precociously talented Arsenal teenager became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history earlier this month when stylishly wrapping up the leaders' vital 2-0 win against Everton.

Dowman's impact and potential led to suggestions that the World Cup could take priority over his GCSEs this summer, but Tuchel overlooked the attacking midfielder for March's expanded senior selection.

But the German coach was full of praise for the fearless teenager, who has been named in the England Under-19s squad rather than being included in Carsley's Under-21 set-up.

Carsley told Your Site: "All of the players are on our radar. I think Max has been on our radar for maybe six, seven, eight months.

"I've seen him play a lot in the Under-17s, as I have a lot of the other players.

"A highly talented player, he's definitely going to get his chance at some points.

"Like I say, we have to just get that timing right and the balance right. It will be good for him this window to go and get some minutes and play some game time."

Why Liverpool's Champions League tie vs PSG is causing fury in France

Your Site' Sam Blitz explains why Liverpool's Champions League tie against PSG is causing quite the stir in France.

Griezmann to join MLS side Orlando this summer

Antoine Griezmann has signed for Orlando City, with the French midfielder moving to the MLS this summer upon the expiry of his deal at Atletico Madrid.

He has signed a contract from July 2026 until the 2027/28 season, with an option to extend for a further year.

I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City, said Griezmann.

From my first conversations with the Club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me.

"I look forward to making Orlando my new home, meeting the supporters, feeling the energy at Inter&Co Stadium, and giving everything I have to help the team achieve great things."

Fernandez focused on Chelsea and the World Cup amid Real Madrid talk

Enzo Fernandez remains focused on finishing the campaign at Chelsea and taking his form into the World Cup with Argentina before giving any thought to future plans amid links with a move to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old has been one of the standout performers of what has largely been an indifferent campaign for the Blues, with Liam Rosenior taking over as head coach in January following the departure of Enzo Maresca.

Rosenior remains confident that Fernandez is happy at Stamford Bridge, with the Argentinian still having five years to run on the deal he signed when joining Chelsea in 2023 for what was then a British record fee of 106.8m.

Fernandez has headed off on international duty, which will see Argentina play friendlies against Mauritania and Zambia in Buenos Aires after the Finalissima was cancelled as a result of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Asked by Argentina sports channel TyC Sports about speculation linking him with Real Madrid following his arrival, Fernandez said: Nothing, zero talks (with Real).

I am focused on Chelsea, what is left of the season, and after the World Cup we will see.

Fernandez hopes to make the most of his time in Argentina, despite the showpiece match against European champions Spain, which had been scheduled to take place in Qatar on March 27, not going ahead.

Obviously, I would have liked to play the Finalissima, to represent my country in a final, Fernandez said.

Because of the problems that happened, it couldnt be played, so now we have to enjoy the friendlies with my team-mates.

I would like it to be played in the future. It is a final and hopefully we can play it.
