Stuart Hogg: Former Scotland captain stripped of MBE after pleading guilty to domestic abuse charges

Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been stripped of his MBE by King Charles, after pleading guilty to domestic abuse against his then-estranged wife.

Hogg was given a one-year community payback order at Selkirk Sheriff Court in January last year after he admitted shouting, swearing and acting in an abusive manner towards his wife Gillian.

He had breached bail conditions by repeatedly contacting Gillian in June 2024.

Hogg was honoured with an MBE in December 2023 in the New Year Honours list for his services to rugby union and currently plays for Montpellier.

He also took part in three British and Irish Lions tours.

A notice in The Gazette - the official public record - said the title had been "cancelled and annulled".

The full notice read: "The King has directed that the appointment of Stuart William Hogg to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 30 December 2023, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order."
